Everyone in the office was involved, because they were not happy that I was negotiating the money downwards. Although, they seemed very helpful, but just for their cut from the bribe.

Detail: There are some police men at Corner Bus Stop near Alaba Market that are always harassing customers that come to buy cds from the market. They will stop them and tell them that they would be arrested for purchasing pirated cds unless they settle them, then they will collect up to 3000 before they will allow them to go.

Detail: I was driving from Abuja to Kogi in my company bus when I was pulled over by Environmental services and they said because I didn't have a waste basket in my bus, I would have to buy one from them or else they would seize the bus. They said the basket was 25 thousand naira and I didn't have any choice but to pay.

Detail: I belong to the anti-terrorism unit here in Abuja, I am a Police officer. In spite of what is happening in the Police force I am happy to be a Police officer because I like this job. But it is sad, the way corruption has eaten into the fabric of the force. Training is a major part of the force as you are well aware of, we were drafted to attend an advanced course in the Anti-terrorism college in Omumma. We had to transport ourselves from our pockets, we had to pay N2000 for the dormitory from our pockets, you will be ridiculed to scorned and treated with disdain for not paying the N35000 for the final exam. How much do we get as constables or as lower ranked officers. if you do not pay, you don't graduate. We pay N2000 for medicals and when you go the infirmary, you do not even get panadol there. How are we to function well when we come out to serve our nation?
